vaseline saucer

We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work because bingo got poised

Lahar

Today we built Mt Ruapehu in the sandpit. We also made the Whangaehu River valley, the plain below the mountain and the railway bridge at Tangiwai. We wanted to learn how the lahar destroyed the bridge in 1953 causing the Tangiwai Disaster. Kora and Ariana poured lots of water into the crater we had made on top of our mountain. It whoosed down the side of the mountain and into the river valley. The bridge collapsed and bits of our train fell into the river. After that, we watched a short video about what do do if you are on Mt Ruapehu when the lahar siren sounds.  Now I know how to keep safe from a lahar if one happens when I am on a mountain.  Here is my Hazard Notice with the most important information.

Making Fake Whitebait Fritters

This term for our novel study, Mrs A read us Whitebait Fritters which is a novel written by a Kiwi |\

To wind up our learning we decided to make some fake whitebait fritters because we can’t afford to buy real whitebait. We used grated potato to take the place of whitebait and mixed it with eggs and onions. They were really tasty. Then we had to write out the recipe, put it on a Google Drawing and add some images. You can see my work below.

Speech writing

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was video games
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think I was good

Here is my speech.

Why are video games bad for people?

Do you enjoy playing video games? A video game is a game played using a controller with a tv or computer. These games are created to engage people and give them something to do. I  believe video games are bad and here are my reasons why.

Firstly, video games are bad because it keeps you there for a long period of time and you might forget that you have other things to do.  You might forget that you have to feed the cat and dog because you are hooked into the video game.  The poor dog or cat will starve.

Secondly, video games are bad because some of them have inappropriate things.  Some games have guns and involve killing people which is not good for young aged children to play.

Finally, video games are bad for kids because they can become addicted and stay up all night. Kids need sleep so they can focus at school the next day and so they learn things. Kids need sleep so that we can grow taller and stronger.

These are the reasons why I think video games are bad.  Kids should be playing outside or playing board games.

Moon Rover lander

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a paper cup,

paper, cellotape and straws.  We were given the task of making our Moon rover land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our marsh-mellow astronauts did not fly out.

The materials I used for my Moon rover is Straw, paper, paper cup, tape, glue, string,
materials.

What I like best about my Moon rover is the paper on the bottom of my rover.
What I needed to modify on my Moon lander rover was put the paper on the bottom.
One thing  I learned about landing on the Moon was having a soft landing.
Here is a
picture of my Moon rover landing on our school’s Moon surface.  I hope you like it!
